Dr. Aashish Valvani Follows His Patients From the Clinic to the ICU and Back, Because Breathing Problems Rarely Stay in One Place
The Flint pulmonologist is triple board certified and treats asthma, COPD and sleep apnea in the office, at the hospital bedside and in intensive care.

FLINT, Mich. A patient with lung disease does not always stay in one part of the hospital. Someone treated for asthma or COPD in a clinic one month can be admitted with a flare the next, and in the worst cases can end up on a ventilator in intensive care. Dr. Aashish Valvani has built his practice so that he can be there at each of those stages.
Dr. Valvani is a pulmonary and critical care physician with Pulmonary Associates, PC in Flint, Michigan. He sees patients in the office, consults on cases in the hospital, covers the intensive care unit and manages patients who need long term critical care.
He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in three areas: internal medicine, pulmonary disease and critical care medicine. That breadth lets him treat the whole patient, not only the lungs.
His clinical focus covers asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and sleep disorders, including sleep apnea. For many patients these are lifelong conditions, and he aims to give them a plan built around their own health, their own symptoms and their own lives.
His medical education began in India, where he graduated in 2005 from Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College in Mumbai. He came to New York for his residency in internal medicine at New York Medical College at Metropolitan Hospital, completing it in 2016.
He then spent three years in a fellowship in pulmonary disease and critical care medicine at Westchester Medical Center, affiliated with New York Medical College, and has held a Michigan medical license since 2019.
In the Flint area he is affiliated with McLaren Flint, Hurley Medical Center and Henry Ford Genesys Hospital, and he serves as an assistant professor with Michigan State University, where he helps train younger physicians.
He keeps current with his field through the American Thoracic Society and the American College of Chest Physicians. Outside the hospital he supports local temples and takes part in community health events.
His approach starts with listening. He takes time to understand each patient's situation before settling on treatment, and he stays with them as their needs change.
Dynamo Times recognizes Dr. Aashish Valvani for his work in pulmonary and critical care medicine and for the steady, personal care he gives patients in Flint and the surrounding communities.
