LTC Jared Steven Videll, DO, FACA, Reflects a Distinguished Career in Cardiology, Medicine and Military Service

Dr. Videll's career reflects an uncommon combination of civilian medicine and military leadership. As a cardiologist, he has spent decades working within cardiovascular medicine and has been affiliated with medical institutions throughout the eastern United States.

Alongside his civilian medical career, Dr. Videll served for approximately 13 years with the U.S. Army Medical Corps Reserve, ultimately retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His military responsibilities included active-duty service as Deputy Commander of Clinical Services of the 48th Combat Support Hospital in Kuwait, in addition to other deployments.

Dr. Videll's academic journey began at the University of Miami, where he earned a Bachelor of Education in 1969. He subsequently pursued medicine at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, earning his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree in 1976.

Following medical school, Dr. Videll completed an internal medicine residency at Atlantic City Medical Center, now known as AtlantiCare. During his residency, he advanced to the position of chief resident, demonstrating leadership early in his medical career.

His training then became increasingly focused on cardiovascular medicine. From 1979 to 1981, Dr. Videll undertook cardiovascular disease fellowship training involving Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia and Deborah Heart and Lung Center. He continued developing his expertise through research fellowship work in nuclear cardiology at Deborah Heart and Lung Center.

In 1982, Dr. Videll became director of employee health services at Deborah Heart and Lung Center. His career subsequently included work with the Pritikin Longevity Center beginning in 1984. In 1987, he became a cardiologist and director of the clinical laboratory at Physician Care Professional Corporation in Towanda, Pennsylvania.

His work in the region also included leadership responsibilities involving the cardiac stress laboratory and intensive care at Memorial Hospital, now associated with The Guthrie Clinic. These positions allowed Dr. Videll to combine direct patient care with responsibilities involving clinical operations and medical leadership.

By the 1990s, his career had expanded further into senior medical administration. Dr. Videll became medical director of the Girard Medical division of the North Philadelphia Health System and subsequently served in senior clinical leadership at Girard Medical Center. His career at Girard included serving as chairman of clinical medicine and clinical director for more than a decade.

Cardiovascular medicine has remained a defining component of Dr. Videll's professional identity. His additional background in nuclear cardiology gave him experience in an area that combines cardiovascular medicine with sophisticated imaging techniques — providing physicians with important information regarding cardiac function and blood flow through specialized diagnostic methods.

Dr. Videll's professional contributions have not been limited to direct clinical care. He has also served as a state peer reviewer for KEPRO, participating in professional review activities within health care. His community and medical-service involvement has included serving as a medical director for a local chapter of the American Cancer Society.

Military service represents another significant chapter of Dr. Videll's professional life. He joined the United States Army Medical Corps Reserve and served for approximately 13 years, ultimately reaching the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Among his assignments was service as Deputy Commander of Clinical Services for the 48th Combat Support Hospital in Kuwait.

Dr. Videll's Army service resulted in multiple military honors, including the Army Achievement Medal, Reserve Component Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal, along with additional military ribbons. These honors recognize aspects of a military career characterized by service and leadership.
