Revisiting The Dynamos: How a 1987 Book on Young Entrepreneurs Captured Jay Adoni
Brett Kingstone's The Dynamos, published by John Wiley and Sons in 1987, profiled the young founder of LJ Simone. That chapter is featured at JayAdoni.com.

NEW YORK. Few entrepreneurs get a book chapter before they turn thirty. Jay Adoni, born Jacob Adoni, did. Brett Kingstone's The Dynamos: Who Are They, Anyway?, published by John Wiley and Sons in May 1987, set out to profile young Americans who had built companies, and the founder of LJ Simone was one of them.
Kingstone described a New York manufacturer, Admos Shoe Corporation, that was growing while many American shoe makers shut their doors. The company employed more than 250 people, and its staff travelled to Europe to keep up with fashion so new styles could reach production fast.
By the time the book came out he had been in America for about a decade, having arrived from Israel at 17 in 1976 and founded LJ Simone in 1978.
The chapters after the book were just as busy: Pentland Brands acquired LJ Simone in 1993 and he became President of Pentland USA, he developed commercial real estate on Long Island, and he later founded PLV Studio. Today he works in his shoe factory in Brooklyn and runs a rare coin business.
The Dynamos chapter, with a restored photograph from the 1980s, is featured on the official site of Jay Adoni.
