She subsequently earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1989.

Her career developed from law clerk in 1991 to associate attorney, partner and eventually law firm owner. Becoming the owner of a law firm requires more than practicing law — it also involves leadership. A firm owner must consider clients, employees, operations, professional standards and the long-term direction of the practice. Ms. Werner's assumption of ownership in 2024 therefore represents both a legal and entrepreneurial milestone.

Ms. Werner has remained active within the broader legal profession. Her professional involvement includes the Maryland State Bar Association and the Maryland Association for Justice. Since 2018, she has also served as a Trustee for the Client Protection Fund of the Bar of Maryland — an important role in maintaining confidence in the legal profession by addressing qualifying losses caused by attorney misconduct.

Ms. Werner's record of service extends substantially beyond her law practice. She serves on the St. Mary's County Adult Public Guardianship Review Board and has held leadership roles as president of the St. Mary's Animal Welfare League and president of the St. Mary's County League of Women Voters. Her civic involvement has also encompassed the St. Mary's County Commission for Women, Tri County Youth Services Bureau, Teen Center Advisory Board, St. Mary's County Cable Advisory Committee, and the St. Mary's County Metropolitan Commission — where she served as both vice chair and chair.

In 2020, Ms. Werner was named among Maryland's Top 100 Women by The Daily Record. The recognition reflected accomplishments extending across her professional career and community involvement. While individual honors mark important milestones, Ms. Werner's broader professional story is defined by consistency: more than three decades in law, more than three decades connected with the same firm, years of involvement in legal organizations, and sustained participation in civic and community service.
